Winding road

Our Journey

Hidden River Credit Union formed nearly 70 years ago with one vision in mind – to better serve the financial needs of Schuylkill County. We started our journey in 1953 as Schuylkill County School Employees Credit Union. Initially, we focused on exclusively serving employees at both public and private schools, as well as their families. Throughout our years of operation, we steadily grew and maintained member needs as our top priority. Many local credit unions valued our service model and found it aligned well with their own focuses. Since inception, HRCU’s membership has approved multiple mergers – including with Good Samaritan Hospital Credit Union (2000), Argo Federal Credit Union (2007), PFP Federal Credit Union (2008), and Schuylkill Federal Credit Union (2016). In 2008, a name change was made to better represent our member base. Considering the Schuylkill River flows directly through the county and Schuylkill is the Dutch word for “Hidden,” the name Hidden River Credit Union was chosen as the best fit to embody the region. To meet our goal of providing the best quality products and services to those who are underserved, we requested and were granted a community charter in 2011. We now serve anyone that lives, works, worships, volunteers, or attends school in Schuylkill County. Hidden River Credit Union has grown in assets over $200 million with more than 17,500 members. As we continue to grow, we will keep the same core values in mind our founders envisioned back in 1953.

Our Vision

Conservative financial management practices and financial strength will be the core from which the credit union grows and executes its mission. The foundation of the mission is firmly established in the credit union philosophy of “People Helping People” and it is the objective of every member of the board of directors, all committees, management, and staff.
