Imposter Scams Are on the Rise

We cannot stress enough how important it is to be vigilant with your personal and account information. Scammers are becoming more sophisticated every day, often using Imposter Scams to create a sense of urgency and pressure you into sending money quickly.

Common tactics include:

  • A loved one claiming to be in urgent need of money.
  • Calls or texts appearing to be from HRCU, asking for your debit card PIN to verify “fraud.”
  • Messages stating your account is “at risk” or “under review.”
  • Threats involving missed payments or foreclosure.

With the rise of AI, scammers may even mimic voices, impersonate credit union staff, stalk social media, or mirror your phone to use bits of real information to make their stories seem legitimate.

The biggest red flag? URGENCY.
If something feels off, pause. Do not respond, click links, or share information. Instead, hang up and verify the request directly using a trusted contact method.

HRCU will NEVER ask for your debit card PIN under any circumstances.

Once personal information is shared and money is sent, there’s no guarantee of recovery. HRCU is here to help protect you and your accounts. If you have questions about suspicious calls or texts, please don’t hesitate to contact HRCU during regular business hours.

You work too hard for your money – don’t hand it over to scammers.
